Describe the circumstances in which you first met?
Russ and I first met when Russ came on board with my company back in the UK. I had worked for the company for a little while and Russ had been based in the North West of England. He had a promotion and was relocated to the North East of England in the office where I was based. We were work colleagues and knew each other for about 6 months before it turned romantic.Russ said he knew from the day 1 we were going to go out.
What are the things that you both love, or that characterise your relationship?
We are both quite relaxed people and always put each other first. We both love to travel and after 6 months of seeing each other we decided to move to Australia together. We both love the sun and getting outdoors and just love the Australian lifestyle.
We definitely love to have a laugh together.
Define the theme of your wedding and how did you incorporate your personalities into it?
For Russ and I it was just important to have a great wedding with all of our close friends and family – we didn’t have a theme or anything in mind to start with. At first we were going to simply hire a large house for all of our family and friends but it became painful so after coming across Clovelly Surf Club we decided to meet the caterer, got on really well with her, signed up that day and we simply planned the rest of the wedding around that.
Why did you choose that location and/or venue?
We both loved the idea of getting married by the cliffs by Coogee / Clovelly so when we met with Jenny Eliades who runs all weddings at Clovelly Surf Club – we clicked with her right away. It was really easy to book the surf club for our reception – the views are simply amazing and to have our actual ceremony on the cliffs across from the surf club. We felt this was nice and relaxed and not formal at all and we loved the fact that our reception was being held in a surf club – very Australian!!
What was the most challenging aspect of planning your wedding?
I don’t think we found anything challenging. We were both extremely relaxed and if we liked something we bought or booked it – we didn’t need to compare it to anything else. Lucky for Russ I certainly was not a bridezilla!
What did you particularly enjoy about your wedding planning journey?
I loved the organisation and seeing things come together. I think a lot of our friends got really involved and helped a lot. I think the build-up to the wedding was fantastic and not stressful at all.
What assistance did you have with planning your wedding?
I bought a Wedding Planner book from Kikki K that was my bible – it was the perfect organiser and I visited 1 wedding fair where I found the information for Clovelly Surf Club, our photographer and I found the dress shop where I found my dress.
Which features that you incorporated into your wedding were you particularly proud of on the day?
I guess just how relaxed it was. A few of our friends said it was the best wedding they’d been too simply because it was relaxed and fun. We had everyone dancing with the band for most of the night.
What is your one stand-out memory of the day?
Alex: Of course first and foremost seeing Russ at the end of the aisle and then I think all of our friends and family having a ball on the dance floor. The band were amazing and really worked the crowd well.
Russ: Watching Alex heading down the aisle, looking so beautiful and happy.
What one piece of advice would you offer to anyone reading this and planning their own wedding?
Alex: I think enjoy it and don’t compare anything to anyone else’s. And of course no regrets if you did and didn’t go with something.
Russ: Don’t stress about the small things, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself.
